Jesus the Resurrection
February 22, 2026
Pastor Byron Guerra
Here are insights from Jesus meeting Martha and Mary on the road.
1. God’s timing is not our timing.
17 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days.
John 11:17 ESV
2. We can come to God with our problems.
20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him,
John 11:20 ESV
28 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29 And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him.
John 11:28-29 ESV
3. God meets us right where we are at.
21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”
John 11:21-24 ESV
32 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled.
John 11:32-33 ESV
4. God cares about the difficulties we face in life.
34 And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”
John 11:34-36 ESV
5. Life is only found in Jesus, The Son of God.
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25-26 ESV
6. Our hope is not an abstract idea for only the future, but an immediate life giving reality.
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades
Revelation 1:17–18 ESV
7. Each of us must answer for ourselves, “Do you believe this?”
Connection Prayer: Lord, thank you for your Son Jesus who is the resurrection and the life. I now, with what faith I have, confess that you Jesus died on the cross for my sins, were buried, and rose from the dead on the third day. I take you as my Savior, Lord, and Leader. Please forgive me of my sins and thank you for your forgiveness. Help me to follow you all the days of my life. Amen.
