Agape: Love
The King is Here
March 29, 2026
Pastor Byron Guerra

12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15  “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt! 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”
John 12:12–19 ESV

Here are four insights about Jesus’ Triumphant Entry.

1. Be ready to greet Jesus!

12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”
John 12:12–13 ESV

2. Jesus has fulfilled the prophets.

14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15  “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.
John 12:14–16 ESV

9 Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey — riding on a donkey’s colt.
Zechariah 9:9 NLT

9 O Zion, messenger of good news, shout from the mountaintops! Shout it louder, O Jerusalem. Shout, and do not be afraid. Tell the towns of Judah, “Your God is coming!”
Isaiah 40:9 NLT

3. Share what Christ has done in your life to those around you.

17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.
John 12:17–18 ESV

4. There is nothing darkness can do to overcome the Light.

19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”
John 12:19 ESV

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5 ESV

Connection Prayer:  Lord, I want to greet your Son Jesus into my life. I welcome you and thank you for your light, life, love, and your truth. I now, with what faith I have, confess that you Jesus died on the cross for my sins, were buried, and rose from the dead on the third day. I take you as my Savior, Lord, and Leader. Please forgive me of my sins and thank you for your forgiveness. Help me to follow you all the days of my life. Amen.

Next steps for the new believer:

  1. If you prayed the connection prayer with me:

    3. Read the gospel of John all the way through by reading about ten verses a day.

Next steps for the believer:

  1. Read John 12 at least twice this week.
  2. Pick a verse out of John 12 and memorize it.
